Towards a Virtual Brain (abstract)

I will tell you about a project that is bringing together computer scientists, mathematicians, cognitive psychologist and clinicians in order to construct a large-scale neural network model – the Virtual Brain. The model is based on actual neuroimaging data on brain structure and function and serves to tell us how these two aspects come together to make a human brain. Because we can use neuroimaging data from any single person, anyone’s brain can become the Virtual Brain, giving us new insights into individual differences in brain function. In addition, clinical data from a patient may be fed into the Virtual Brain to better appreciate how particular damage compromises function, and perhaps how to treat it.
